20251228 Continuity
Things continue. This is to say time passes if one engages with life certain trends coalesce from your environment. Some just are but others enter your conciseness repeatedly, they continue to call for your attention. Today a diatribe on my partner’s laptop triggered this sense of déjà vu in me. The orator has been lost to the ether but their point has stuck with me all day.
In brief they set on to prove or at least argue that taking up art as a professional pursuit on 2025 is a bad idea. You will just be frustrated. Their points were broad but they raised a criticism perhaps of the western world or perhaps of Capitalism; that all things are tied to progress in some larger sphere not simply in the act. They railed against many things but they specifically called out drawing to hit some quota or hit some learning level rather than to simply draw.
Coding To Code
The sentiment hits home with me. I rarely code because I want to for its sake. I rarely just make myself something I wish to have. I will code to learn a career skill or improve my resume. I’ll do it for pay but rarely just because I want the outcome. Today I reversed that some. I do not need to have Emacs configuration universally on any computer I use but I want it. Incidentally eLisp is the single most universal full coding environment I can find. It’s everywhere. While you can find python in some form of app on IOS you can get the real deal elisp interpreter on just about any computer. So today I declared true Emacs bankruptcy and killed my years old configuration on my laptop for a new one that works as easily on GrapheneOS as it does on my work and personal laptops.
Will I be faster? Better? Most likely not but the consistent environment feels good in a world of subscriptions and constantly changing technical mess.
